I'll be reading some of my poetry alongside my fellow participants in the So & So Books writing workshop at So & So's First Friday event in January. We are an eclectic group of writers, so please come out to hear readings in all different styles of poetry and prose!
Sola Pop-up markets are always a blast. They have great vendors to shop with and I'm always well primed with caffeine. They're having two markets this month, and I'll be typing at their second one on Saturday the 26th. Even with their newly extended hours I'm still likely to be busy around lunch time, so plan to get there early for a good seat and an earlier spot in the poem queue!
If you've driven around Durham, you may have noticed a big, lonely glass building rising proudly from the horizon off US Route 15-501.
That's University Tower, aka The Big Green Pickle, and I'll be there on the tippy-top floor typing poems on the evening of June 18th at this month's Thirst 4 Architecture happy hour. Thirst 4 Architecture is a free roaming party for fans of modernist architecture and design in the Triangle area, and I can't wait to see if anyone there knows what a weird, green skyscraper is doing all by itself in the outskirts of Durham. Come have a fancy drink with me and allow me to type a poem for you about your favorite building, or some other topic of your choosing!
April is National Poetry Month in these United States, and I'm very much looking forward to this April Pop-up at Sola. It will be the one-year anniversary of my first time typing poetry on demand there or anywhere. Come out and commission a poem about whatever you want.
Please let this serve as relatively short notice that I'll be typing poems this Saturday at the Raleigh Makers Market in Cameron Village. I'll be typing from 10am to 2pm in the breezeway next to Benelux because I REFUSE to write poetry more than thirty yards from a source of fine coffee.
It's a new year! No doubt by now the joy and cheer of the Holiday season have faded and left you facing the harsh realities of January. It is Winter. Your mailbox is full of tax documents and gym membership spam. Several weeks back at work have left your resolutions for 2015 seeming feeble and unattainable.
DO NOT DESPAIR! Remember that we live in a world in which there are Saturdays, and coffee, and handsome sweaters of exceptional comfort! There is poetry! Our friends at Sola Coffee understand this, and have arranged for a celebration of all things awesome at a special ad-hoc Pop-up Market on the first Saturday in February. I'll be there typing, alongside several other local vendors whose wares will help reinvigorate you in this soggy, cold season.
This market is also timed to conveniently coincide with a certain February holiday which you may or may not be prepared to celebrate with someone special to you. I would be glad to type a poem for your Valentine on the topic of love, but I'd like to warn you up-front that I plan to make any love poems as weird as possible, so if you're looking for gooey sentiment you may want to augment your gift with a copy of The Notebook or a personalized dedication from Delilah.
As always, the earlier you catch me the fresher I'll be. I tend to get busy around lunchtime at these events, so come early and get your request in so I can work on it while you shop around and enjoy a coffee!
I'll be typing poems on demand for First Friday at the JUST ART market at Cobblestone Hall in City Market. The market is part of a larger event that benefits Project FIGHT, a division of the Salvation Army that provides services and support for victims of human trafficking in the area.
There are many fine events for you to enjoy on this particular Friday night, but none support a better cause or offer a value like $5 for your very own poem, so come on down if you didn't get tickets to see Spoon & St. Vincent at Hopscotch, or John Hodgman in Durham.
August 9th is the second Saturday of the month! So as always, I'll be typing poems based on your requests or suggestions at the August pop-up market at Sola Coffee Cafe, North Raleigh's finest of caffeine dens. Please stop by and have me write a poem on a subject that is either dear to your heart or one that you feel might amusingly repulse an aging, beloved family member of yours. I write both kinds.
Please come early as I tend to get swamped around lunchtime, and as such must unfortunately stop taking requests around noontime. Thank you.
FORGIVE ME! I have been on vacation and isolated in one of the ferny, remote corners of New York state and have thus failed to notify you that I will be typing poems at an event this very weekend.
Please consider acting upon this incredibly late notice and coming to see me, along with many fine vendors of vintage and handmade goods, at the July 27th POP-UP Sunday. I will be there from noon to 5:00 PM.
POP-UP Sunday is an outdoor market at Ornamentea in downtown Raleigh. There will be beer and food trucks to compliment your very own commissioned poetry!
I'll be typing at Sola Coffee in North Raleigh the second Saturday of July at their monthly pop-up market. Stop by for a poem and check out all of the great local artists and craft folks!
(July 12th is Pablo Neruda's Birthday, so you get a Free High Five if you mention the special offer code "NERUDA")
